Ways to Improve Speed
Images
Use WebP format for all photos
Convert JPGs/PNGs to WebP — 25–35% smaller with no visible quality loss.
💡 Run images through squoosh.app or TinyPNG and re-upload. Already done for new uploads via base44 CDN.
Lazy-load below-fold images
Images not visible on first load should not block rendering.
💡 ✅ Already implemented — all below-fold images have loading='lazy' and decoding='async'.
Set explicit width & height on all images
Prevents layout shift (CLS) by reserving space before the image loads.
💡 Add width and height attributes to every <img> tag. Already done on hero image.
Preload the hero (LCP) image
The largest above-fold image should start loading as early as possible.
💡 ✅ Already implemented — <link rel='preload'> added in index.html for the hero image.
JavaScript
Code-split all below-fold page sections
Lazy-load React sections that aren't visible on first paint.
💡 ✅ Already implemented — all Home sections below the hero use React.lazy() + Suspense.
Remove unused npm packages
Packages like jsPDF, Stripe, and canvas-confetti add KB even if unused on most pages.
💡 Audit imports — only import packages on the pages that actually use them. Consider dynamic imports for heavy libs.
Defer third-party scripts
Analytics, chat widgets, and ad scripts block the main thread.
💡 Add defer or async to all <script> tags in index.html that aren't critical to first render.
Network & Fonts
Preconnect to external origins
Opening TCP connections early saves 100–300ms per external domain.
💡 ✅ Already implemented — preconnect hints added for supabase, base44, YouTube, and Unsplash in index.html.
Self-host or preload Google Fonts
Google Fonts adds a render-blocking request if not handled correctly.
💡 Add display=swap to the font URL and preconnect to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com.
Enable Brotli/Gzip compression
Text assets (JS, CSS, HTML) should be compressed at the server.
💡 This is handled by the hosting platform (Base44/Vite). Verify via Chrome DevTools → Network → check Content-Encoding header.
Caching
Long cache-control on static assets
JS, CSS, and images should be cached for at least 1 year on repeat visits.
💡 Vite hashes filenames on build, enabling safe long-term caching. Confirm your host sets Cache-Control: max-age=31536000 on /assets/*.
Use a CDN for global delivery
A CDN serves assets from a server physically close to the visitor.
💡 Base44 hosts on Supabase CDN. For custom domains, consider adding Cloudflare (free) in front for extra edge caching and a free SSL.
